Environmental Impact Design could be made on land that is close to the village, and is not in use by thepopulation,hence the design has a minimal environmental impactTechnical Functionality The solution helps to both divert floods and provides an increased crop yield,therefore making it a functional solution. Detail of Option 2 Irrigation Canals Irrigation is crucial for agriculture in the country which suffers from droughts andirregular rainfall patterns. However, irrigation would only benefit the functionality in the wet season, due to insufficient water in the dry season and no significantwater storage systems for year-round irrigation of crops. Flood mitigation may be achieved by rehabilitating small-scale irrigation canalsplaced on mountainous slopes where flash floods are commonly frequent. This willprovide several channels to redirect large volumes of water flow during the wetseason. Cultural Initially, vegetation in the designated area will be removed in order to excavate thecanals. Once the project is built, vegetation will be replanted in order to build resistancesagainst the water flow, strengthening the usage of canals as well as restoring thenatural environment. Traditional farming techniques are unaffected by the project. Economical Requires minimal funds as the project relies on volunteers from the localcommunity and utilizes local materials found in the natural environment. Sustainability"
