INTRODUCTION, AIMS AND OBJECTIVES1.1 IntroductionOne of the aims of this unit is to introduce learners to the concepts and practices ofhuman resource management within the United Kingdom focusing on the managementof recruitment, retention and employment cessation.Learners will be introduced to the different theoretical perspectives of human resourcemanagement and how to explore the differences in these approaches.They will be ableto explain the difference between personnel management and human resourcemanagement.Learners will learn Human resource planning: definition, links (organisational purposes,organisational strategy, and senior management).They will also learn how recruitingand retaining staff of the right skills contributes to the achievement of organisationalpurposesLearners will learn Motivation theories and practice of human resource managementfocussing on current human resources practice.Learners will then understand how toreward employees in order to motivate and retain them.Finally, Learners will learn the mechanisms for the cessation of employment.Learnerswill subsequently comprehend that Organisations with effective human resourcemanagement policies, processes and practices will have committed skilled employeeswho contribute effectively to the organisation.
