  • "power and was the one responsible for all the decisions. So, as we talk about new practicesfor development we need to keep accessing the context in which it is developed and need tobe. (Johnson, 2017)There are various theories associated with leadership and development of leadership. Some ofthem are also essential when it comes to the context of health and social care. In case of Behavioural Theory, the focus is not on leader’s skills, ability or traits but on howthey behave in certain situation. According to this theory, leaders are made not born. Thistheory divides leaders mainly into two criteria, one who is concerned only about the tasks andthe other who is also concerned about the people who are doing the work. In case of health and social care sector, behavioural theory can be used for developingleadership. The person who is part of this whole scenario should be able to behave certainway when it comes to completing any task but they should also not give up the attention andhelp their team members require when any kind of crises occurs. The whole idea behind thiskind of development initiative would be to make the leader comfortable in dealing withfluctuating situations where there is always rush and problems.Second would be the case of Contingency Theories where there is no focus on any singlecharacteristic. It emphasizes on the point that there is never any single way of leading. Everyleader has their own unique way of leading which is based on situations. But in this case theleaders are most likely to express their opinions only when they think their efforts would beappreciated. Inn case of health and social care sector, this theory is not that much useful asthe leaders in such sectors and organizations cannot be waiting for results before efforts.(Yuki, 1999)Then comes, the Transactional Theory where there is a positive and mutually beneficialrelationship. They would need to develop an environment where there would be mutuallybeneficial relationship. In case of health and social care sector this can be a motivational toolas the leader would be a part of the team and the team efforts which he can improve willprovide benefits to them too.Lastly in case of Transformational Theory the person leading the team has such a biginfluence on others that they end up changing the followers’ perspective and improving themintellectually too. For this the leader needs to have charismatic and inspirational. In case ofhealth and social care sector, this is even more beneficial as there needs to be a lot of work13 that need to be done and if there is any scope that the leader can create people like him thenthe sector will be able to perform more efficiently. (Wagner, 2017)So when it comes to the leaders required in this field and how to develop their potentialsbeyond their now achieved levels, it is necessary that proper motivational tools are uses thecompany as well as the person itself so to develop both individually and organizationally. Conclusion:Through this we have discussed about some of the central issues related to health and socialcare. Only when we choose the right person, develop a team and develop these work forcesuch that leaders emerge within these people that this sector will develop.14 References:Bunchan, 2000, Transforming the delivery of health and social care, [Article], Available:https://www.kingsfund.org.uk/sites/files/kf/field/field_publication_file/transforming- ththe-delivery-of-health-and-social-care-the-kings-fund-sep-2012.pdf , (Accessed, 7 April, 2017)Cardinal, (2015), 5 steps to building an effective team, [Article], Available:http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rosalind-cardinal/5-steps-to-building-an-effective- th team_b_7132406.html, (Accessed: 7 April, 2017)Den Adel et al, (2004), In the name of Human Capital: Migration studies, [Article],Available:comparativemigrationstudies.springeropen.com/track/pdf/10.../CMS2014.4.FINO?site th .,[Accessed: 8 April,2017]Haralson, (2010), What is workforce development, [Article], Available:https://www.stlouisfed.org/Publications/Bridges/Spring-2010/What-is-Workforce- th Development , [Accessed: 8 April, 2017]Health foundation, (2017), Teamwork and communication, [Article], Available:http://patientsafety.health.org.uk/area-of-care/safety-management/teamwork-and- th communication [Accessed: 9 April, 2017]Manser, (2009), Teamwork and patient safety in dynamic domains of health care, [Article],th Available: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19032571 , [Accessed: 9 April,2017]Pay Scale, (2017), Role of director of nursing and their pay, [Article], Available:www.payscale.com/research/US/Job=Assistant_Director_of_Nursing_(ADON)/Salar th y[Accessed: 10 April, 2017]Okun, (2016), Foundational Workplace Safety and Health Competencies for the EmergingWorkforce, [Article], Available: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/labs/articles/27846998th, [Accessed: 10 April, 2017]Price, (2003), NHS and Health and Social care bill, [Article], Available:th https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC259173/, [Accessed: 11 April,2017]Picolo, (2004), Transformational and Transactional Leadership: A Meta-Analytic Test ofTheir Relative Validity, [Article], Available:http://psycnet.apa.org/?fa=main.doiLanding&doi=10.1037/0021-9010.89.5.755.th [Accessed: 11 April, 2017]15 Wagner, (2017, 8 leadership theories, [Article], Available:unpan1.un.org/intradoc/groups/public/documents/APCITY/UNPAN030550.pdfth [Accessed: 12 April, 2017]Williams, (2017), Qualifications for director of nursing, [Article], Available:th http://work.chron.com/qualifications-director-nursing-16626.html [Accessed: 12April, 2017]16 "
