  • "Paper 3After I read Shakespeare’s Henry V and watch the Olivier’s film, I find some differences. In theShakespeare’s Henry V, although he described many scenes that are very huge and incredible, most of these cannot represent on the stage because of small. In Henry V, in act 4, there aremany scenes that are about war. In the small stage, it cannot represent for a army. It is thedifferences between two Henry V. In Oliver’s Henry V, after act 1, it is similar with a movie nota comedy. It does not look like a drama on the stage. There are many scenes that need audiences to image in Shakespeare’s Henry V. Oliver’s HenryV is made it like movie and he makes audiences who do not need to image too much on the storybecause he could make the scenes whatever are war or army. Scenes represent what the storyhappen. For example, at the page 66 from line 1 to line 8, it said:” Now entertain conjecture of atime, when creeping murmur and the poring dark. Fills the wide vessel of the universe. Fromcamp to camp, through the foul womb of night, the hum of either army stilly sounds, that thefixed sentinels almost receive, the secret whispers of each other’s watch. Fire answers fire, andthrough their play flames.” It shows the night that is before the war. This night two differentarmy seems like very quiet but actually, both of them are very nervous and excited. The soldierswant to win and get the honor from this war. At the same, they also are worry about the warwhether they will win or lose, whether they could be alive in the war or death. Their kings alsoare worry about the war and expect the war. I am surely audience could image plentiful scenesby these words. When I was reading it, I also feel very excited and expected the war, but in Oliver’s Henry V. It is a little bit differences. In his film, there is not only people who read thewords, but also there is also the scene at the same time. It means the audiences that could alsoimage the scene, and it already has the scene that shows to them. We can see very clearly thatthere are two camp at different parts in the night. Fire to fire, and the night is very quiet. Themoon is not very light but it looks very cold and white. It is quiet night, but after both of twoarmies seems not as quiet as they are looked. There are another different in the paragraph. In the film, there are some conversations in thechorus, but in the book, there is no these conversations. In the book, according to describe thenight, soldiers and king’s behavior to represent before the war, every people are nervous, theyexpect the future and they also are worry about future. It causes that some people could not sleepand feel the night is so long. It is at the page 67, line 18 to line 20. It said: “the confident andoverlusty French do the low-rated English play at dice and chide the cripple tardy-gaited nightwho like a foul and ugly with limp so tediously away.” In the film, this part is instead ofconversation. When they do these conversation, it represents to audience their nervous and theyare hard to sleep because of the war that is coming. We could know their feeling in theirconversation. It is not only according to describe or words to image it. It is another differencebetween both.I also focus some difference at page 76 to 77, line 218 to line 271. This part is that describe theking feeling. In the Oliver’s film, the king seems that he said to himself in the conversation, butin the book. It seems like king said to other people. Actually, in the film, the soldiers who arenearby the kings are sleeping. It just represents inside of king. His nervous and his expected arerepresented in this paragraph. "
