  • " joblessness and there has been an outcry to review the education system so as to impart learnerswith innovative skills and avert over reliance on “education for employment” mentality.ConclusionThroughout this discussion, it is worth noting that initially all newly independent nations in thedeveloping world in Africa, Latin America and Asia were keen on attainment of educationaldevelopment. Provision of universal free primary education was every nation’s immediate goalwhose timeline for attainment was 1980. To many of these new nations investing heavily oneducational projects through national financial budgetary allocations was not optional. This ledto overemphasis on education at the expense of other sectors of economy. Many years down theline, many of these countries (especially in Africa) have seen large proportion of theirpopulations educated but not employed due to scarcity of jobs. A lot of queries have thereforearisen on educational planning strategies employed. The quality, relevance and applicability ofeducation so offered have not been incorporated in the overall educational planning. One of the most urgent measures needed especially in Kenya is the review of the current 8.4.4system. The curriculum should be crafted in such a way as to enable students to specialize intheir interested disciplines as early as when they join secondary school in a bid to curb wastageand frustration. Then and only then will education cease to be merely a social service but aninvestment in the nation’s human resource. - 13 - BibliographyBannaars, G.A., Otiende, J.E., and Boisvert, R., (Eds), Theory and Practice of Education, Nairobi: East African Educational Publishers, 1994Bishop, G., Alternative Strategies for Education, London and Basing Stoke: Macmillan Publishers Ltd, 1989Sheffield, R.
