  • "Online LearningThe Tutorial “Introduction to Online Learning” explains what online courses are and how theywork. It also addresses some debunking myths about online courses. After going through thewhole tutorial I personally feel that both the instructor and students will face some issues whileundergoing online courses. Issues for Instructor:The biggest issue for the instructor is designing the course content for online teaching. Becausefor online teaching there won’t be any physical interaction between instructor and students and ifthe course is not properly planned and designed, online course will prove to be a huge failure. This should be preplanned before starting the online course.Another major concern for theinstructor is keeping a check on Plagiarism. It is a very seriousissue and is a type of cybercrime. There is no face to face interaction between instructor andstudent hence, it becomes difficult to track if the students are preparing assignment themselvesand are not copying those from other websites. Though multiple software and websites areavailable for checking plagiarism, which can be effectively used to restrict students fromsubmitting the plagiarized work. But I feel that a teacher’s job is more than just restrictingstudents from copying other’s work, a teacher should always motivate students for notplagiarizing. Assessment of student’s learning is another concern for the instructor. This issue could be solvedif proper methods are used for anassessment like online quizzes, discussions, writing reflectionsetc. The transformation from Traditional Teacher to theOnline teacher is also one of the issues thatmany teachersencounter. They should be grilled with continuous training and support. They mustbe familiar and comfortable with the latest technological developments and related software.Issues for Students: This brings us to the next issue: online courses’ inability to accommodatestudents who may need the kind of help offered in traditional courses.Computer Literacy/ Not so Techno Savy: Digital division is almost usual gap between thosewho can use internet and technology and those who are not good at using technology. This is oneof the major issues with students who come from abackground where they are not taught theuse of technology and internet. Along with this having computer literacy is also a key concern. Onesolution to this issue could be theuse of collaborative learning methods in online courses so thatdifferent type of students can learn together.Time Management: This is the issue that is of key concern for both instructors and students. Allthe activities that are planned for an online course should follow strict timings. It requires thefollowing-? The teacher should conduct their online lectures delivery on time as per the course planwhich should be known to the students well in advance. ? The teacher should give timely assignments to the students to keep them engage forthemaximum time period.? Students must submit their assignment on time. ? To keep students motivated teacher should assess the assignments as per the schedule. Itincreases students’ interest in attempting future assignments and also keeps them engagedin solving assignments.Increasing Self-Motivation and Self-Direction for students is another challenge in anonlinecourse. Students must become comfortable as active learners. They cannot retain the role ofpassive learner as is so common in the traditional classroom. The online learner is obligated toparticipate in the learning process. They must be encouraged to analyze and think critically. Theymust learn to apply new ideas to the resolution of problems."
