  • " Molar Mass of the Alkaline Earth CarbonatePoint to note:? In a back titration a known amount of reagent is added to asolution and allowed to react and the excess is titratedQ1) the method used in back titration would work in order to determine themolar mass of the alkaline earth carbonateQ2) from this experiment for a molar mass to be calculated using back titrationthen the following have to be considered:i) The known amount in mass of MCO will reacted with a known3 molarity and volume of HCl, and from this reaction the excess molesof HCl will be determined by titrating it with another known solutionhaving a known concentration( example NaOH) throughdetermination of average volume, calculation of moles of the knownsolution that reacted with excess HCl, and through mole ratio themoles of HCL can be determinedii) The number of moles of HCl that reacted with MCO can be easily be3 determined by finding out the difference between the initial moles ofHCl which had not reacted with any substance and the number ofmoles of HCl in excessiii) Finally using the mole ratio between MCO and HCl which is 2:1,3 then number of moles of the MCO can be determined, which will3further help to determine RFM using the moles and the known amountin mass of MCO . From this we know that RAM of carbon = 14,3 RAM of oxygen = 16, and RAM of alkaline earth metal(M) = xThereforeX + 14 + 16 * 3 = RFMMolar mass of alkaline earth metal (M) = RFM - 62 "
