It is a great masterpiece of nature having dreamlike scenery that combines blue lakes, waterfalls, snow-covered mountains, verdant forests and the folk customs of Tibetan and Qiang peoples. Legend has it that long ago the deity of mountain named Dago had the crush on the goddess Semo and he gave a mirror that was made through from cloud and wind to the goddess. On the other hand, the devil appeared and made difficulty to Semo. Unintentionally, Semo broke that mirror into 108 pieces, which fell down to the earth and afterwards turned to 108 colourful lakes. The lake is also known as Haizi by local people.

Five-Colour Pond is one of the smallest but the most amazing water basins in Jiuzhaigou lakes. It has an amazing coloured underwater landscape and some of the clearest and brightest waters in the area.

Fly Geyser is Located on a gated parcel of private property within the million-acre Black Rock Desert, Fly Geyser is not a normal fact. It was formed accidentally in 1964 from a geothermal test well inadequately capped. The scalding water has erupted from well as afterwards, leaving calcium carbonate deposits rising at the rate of several inches per year. The brilliant green and red colouring on the mounds is from thermophilic algae thriving in the great micro-climate of the geysers.

Grand Prismatic Spring - Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

Yellowstone is home to thousands of thermal features, other than the main hot spring in the park is the Grand Prismatic Spring. It is Located in the Midway Geyser Basin, the spring is 370 feet in diameter and 121 feet deep. In adding to being the largest thermal feature in the park, Grand Prismatic Spring was as well the first thermal to be definitively identified. 1839 diary entries by a fur trapper named Osborne Russell explain the "boiling lake" of deep indigo blue about 300 feet in diameter.

However as anyone can see, the deep blue of the spring's mineral-rich water isn't its only unique colour. The vivid rings of rusty reds and vibrant greens and yellows that encircle it are caused by colonies of pigmented thermophiles, microbes that live within specific intense temperature range a hot springs. The bands of colour correspond to the microbes' grades of tolerance. Where one type of colony reaches its temperature threshold, one more type immediately takes over.
