The University of Southern Queensland (USQ) has forged a reputation as one of Australia’s leading providers of on-campus and distance education programs in Australia. Having more than 75 per cent of students studying by means of distance or online, USQ is at the cutting border of flexible delivery of the resources and technology.
USQ is a young dynamic university which is located in three thriving regional locations across Southern Queensland Australia: Toowoomba campus; Fraser Coast campus and Springfield campus (near Brisbane).
The dynamic nature of USQ allows it to remain relevant to global trends. From the field of Arts, including Creative Business, Arts, and from Education to Sciences, Surveying, and Engineering the University continues to develop programs and courses that reflect the changing needs of society. Various programs are offered on-campus, on-line and by means of distance education. The close connection USQ has with industries and the communities ensures its programs are current and relevant and that its graduates have all knowledge and skills needed to make them work ready.
USQ has a diverse student population, and having enrolments of above 26,000 students representing around 120 nationalities, USQ is the multicultural university (per capita) in the Australia. With study centers in Europe, Africa, and throughout Asia, USQ also attracts many international students to its campuses.
To improve student access to higher education, USQ has introduced a wide range of innovative programs including Head Start for the secondary school students, a Tertiary Preparation Program for the people who have been away from studies for some time, English Language Programs and UniPrep to help international students. The University has an Elite Athletes Program also and a study support program for the students by the Centre for Australian Indigenous Knowledge’s.
USQ is home to the Australian Digital Futures Institute (ADFI). ADFI is a research and innovation institute and aims to contribute both to the Learning and Teaching agenda (by support of USQ’s teaching and learning technology requirements), and to the Research agenda (by contributing to the eResearch requirements of USQ research centres). Additionally, it contributes directly to USQ’s visibility and prestige through forming strong links and networks nationally and internationally with like- minded individuals and groups.
The research is a priority at USQ and the university is proud of its internationally renowned research centers covering areas such as sustainable catchments, engineering fibre composites, rural and remote area health, systems biology, computational engineering, engineering in agriculture and public memory research.
